Authorities identify San Jose homicide victim

SAN JOSE — A man who died after being found shot near San Jose State University early Saturday has been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as 23-year-old Cruz Angel Ayala, of Tulelake, a city in Siskiyou County.

Officers were dispatched to S. 10th and E. William streets about 2 a.m. for a report of a person shot. They arrived to find Ayala suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Ayala was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the city’s fourth homicide of the year remain under investigation. As of Tuesday night, no suspects had been identified or arrested.
