From an Avalanche press release: “The fan-favorite sweater originally debuted during the team’s 20th anniversary season on Oct. 24, 2015 vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets at Pepsi Center. Inspired by the logo of the Colorado Rockies hockey team that played in Denver from 1976-82, as well as the state’s topography, the Avalanche’s adidas adizero authentic NHL Division Rival third jersey is both a statement of regional pride and hockey history. By fusing the terrain of the Rocky Mountains with elements from the state flag, the crest features the ‘C’ from Colorado’s state flag and places it in the center of a triangular mountain design. Additionally, the navy-base jersey has white shoulder yokes to evoke the look of snow-capped mountain peaks, while a shoulder patch of the Colorado state flag sits atop the left shoulder.”
The team went on to say the jersey will be worn during 12 home games this season — each against Central Division opponents at the Pepsi Center.
