A Birmingham mother is voicing concerns about her family’s dangerous journey to school every day.
Markita Stokes said she and her two young sons have to walk to Hillview Elementary School because she doesn’t own a car and they live too close to the school to ride the bus. She said there’s no real space for them along the side of Cherry Avenue.
The video shows her children just feet from the road as cars zoom past them.
“Y you are walking in high grass; there is debris everywhere that you are stepping on,” Stokes said. “I am so terrified that me and my children will end up getting hit.”
Stokes reached out to the school for a possible solution. She said officials are currently working on a plan to resolve the issue.
