Okay, it’s taken me years, but I have finally figured out what creeps me out about the GMC Black Friday ads. Hey, I never claimed to be a rocket scientist.
Another writer could give you thousands of words on the subject, covering our materialistic culture, our myopic way of life, or just a humorless screed on capitalism in general.
But hey, it’s Black Friday, and I’ve got to make time to go shopping. That was a joke, for those Lost Souls who lack the humor gene.
But a quick glance at the ad featured below perfectly illustrates just what it is about GMC which creeps me out at this time of year.
To break it down into its simplest terms, one woman returns from the stores carrying bags, which in my innocence, I am assuming probably contains at least a few Christmas gifts for her family.
The other woman? Well, she has a new GMC truck.
“Sorry, kids, all we could afford this year was what we could find at yard sales, but hey, look at the new family truck!”
To quote that great philosopher Austin Powers, “Yeah, baby . . .”
Listening to “The Best of Nina Simone” today, featuring such treats as “Sinnerman,” “Four Women” and “I Put a Spell on You.”
Now, that would be a great present for somebody this year.
