How 'The Mole Agent' Director Maite Alberdi Captured an Oscar-Nominated Documentary Film Noir

"The Mole Agent" director Maite Alberdi joins Variety’s "Doc Dreams," presented by National Geographic, to discuss the 5-year process of completing her Oscar-nominated documentary with a 4 person crew. Describing the project as a "documentary film noir," Alberdi notes the pervasive loneliness she captured while investigating a Chilean nursing home via her elderly spy Sergio Chamy.

“The Mole Agent” was selected as Chile’s submission for best international feature, and was one of two films that were shortlisted in both that category and documentary feature. She is the sixth Latina to be nominated in the category, and the first from Chile.
